The CAIA charter certifies an individual’s mastery of the concepts, tools and practices essential for understanding, analyzing and evaluating real estate, private equity, and commodities, as well as the modern alternative vehicles — hedge funds and managed futures. Coming from 45 different countries, CAIA candidates range in experience from new industry participants to seasoned professionals and include investment advisors, consultants and analysts, fund managers and administrators, accountants and lawyers, as well as compliance and back office personnel. The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association® is an independent, not-for-profit global organization committed to education and professionalism in the field of alternative investments. Founded in 2002 by the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets (CISDM) and the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), the CAIA Association is the sponsoring body for the CAIA designation. Recognized globally, the CAIA designation certifies one's mastery of the concepts, tools and practices essential for understanding alternative investments and promotes adherence to high standards of professional conduct. The CAIA designation is earned through successful completion of all CAIA program requirements, including the Level I and Level II examinations. The CAIA curriculum focuses on the five core areas of alternative investments: hedge funds, managed futures, private equity, commodities and real estate. In addition, the curriculum includes quantitative techniques and professional standards. Earning the designation demonstrates an individual’s comprehensive understanding of the AI space and commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards. As of November 2007, over 5000 candidates from more than 70 countries have enrolled in the CAIA program, over 1500 of whom have earned the CAIA designation and become CAIA members.
